FLIP THE SCRIPT

Tell your story for the stage.

“Flip the Script” is our hands-on, four-session playwriting workshop.

In educational theatre, actors and technicians are so frequently involved with the production of a scripted story. They learn lines, build sets, hang lights, learn choreography, and so much more. We feel that there is immense value in learning about where those stories come from and how they’re crafted for live theatre.

Throughout “Flip the Script”, students will learn to:

  • Build an idea from a prompt, a single word, an image, anywhere.

  • Write dialogue that has meaning and propels the story forward.

  • Craft scenes that are realistic for the conventions of live theatre.

  • Develop characters that are engaging and relatable.

Our ultimate goal is for each “Flip the Script” playwright to build a 10-minute, short play that could potentially be produced on The Brook Theatre stage in the following school year.

FAQs

Is this only open to particular grades?

Nope! This is a workshop open for freshman through senior.

What if I can’t be at all four sessions?

That’s okay! We have a Google Classroom where all of our “lessons” are held. It’s also where we keep our drafts of our plays.

What if I don’t want my play performed?

Perfectly fine. Students can also submit their plays under a pseudonym or anonymously.
